Holding the
pencil
Hold your pencil comfortably and naturally. Grip the pencil lightly. To
draw light lines, use little pressure. To draw heavier lines, increase
pressure.
Create texture by changing the angle of the pencil to the paper
surface and use the point or side of the lead. Generally, the two ways of
holding a pencil are the normal writing position and under the palm. In the
normal writing position, you have control for tight or small details. Holding
the pencil under the palm allows you to use free-flowing wrist or arm action
to draw larger or to draw with less restriction.
