For more stability when hand lettering, use a sign painter’s mahlstick to
brace the lettering hand over the surface.
A mahlstick is a long stick with a
rubber tip to prevent sliding that supports a sign painter’s wrist above the
lettering surface.
Figure 5-51 illustrates how to use mahlsticks.
