Architectural/Structural Steel Drawings, ContinuedConstructiondrawingsConstruction drawings are orthographic views that present as muchinformation as possible graphically or by pictures. They consist of planviews, elevations, section views, details, and specifications all on a relativelylarge scale.PLAN Views: Plan views are views of the structure as it would appear ifprojected onto a horizontal plane passed through or held above the structurearea. The most common construction plans are plot plans (also called siteplans), foundation plans, floor plans, and framing plans. Plot or site plansshow the contours, boundaries, roads, utilities, trees, structures, and othersignificant physical features about structures on the site.Foundation plansare plan views of a structure projected on an imaginary horizontal planepassing through at the level of the tops of the foundation. The informationon a floor plan includes the lengths, thicknesses, and character of thebuilding walls on that particular floor, the widths and locations of door andwindow openings, the length and character of partitions, the number andarrangement of rooms, and the types and locations of utility installations.Framing plansshow the dimension numbers and arrangement of structuralmembers in wood-frame construction.Figure 4-20 is an example of a floor plan.Figure 4-20.—A floor plan.Continued on next page4-23
