Letter Compositions, ContinuedFormalletteringcompositionFormal lettering compositions are compositions that follow rigid rules ofdesign. Intended primarily for serious or dignified layouts, formal letteringcompositions present letters in centered, flush left, or flush right positions.Lettered information often appears as pyramids or inverted pyramids placedone-tenth page length above the exact center of a page. This elevatedposition is referred to as optical center.
